Donkey and Mule Resources on the Web

UK Resources / UK Saddleries / USA Resources / Caring for a donkey or mule / Equine catalogue sites / Virtual Communities

UK Resources:

The Donkey Sanctuary in the UK; a recently updated web site packed with interesting information. Learn how the sanctuary is run and the work they do, both in the UK and abroad. Lots of fun information for children about donkeys with a new DonKidz Club; general information about caring for your donkey too. New information is being added to this site regularly but it's well worth a visit now to this beautifully designed new site.

The Donkey Breed Society - the UK society promoting the care and use of the donkey. The list of show cancellations here make depressing reading and demonstrate just how much the foot and mouth crisis is still biting here in the UK. Many of the county shows have already been cancelled and now the Society has taken the decision to cancel the supreme championships for this year - a sad but wise move. Details of shows that have been cancelled can be found at this site.

The British Horse Society - Lots of nice, really local, information here about what's on, bridleways etc.

British Mule Society - again a list of cancellations of events. There will be a lot of animals having a very quiet year this year.

New European Distressed Donkey Initiative - ...or NEDDI for short. "The New European Distressed Donkey Initiative is a non-profit making company, limited by guarantee.. established to offer care and safety to donkeys (and to a lesser degree, ponies) within Britain and Europe at risk from neglect, cruelty or mal-treatment." Lovely donkey gifts, if you are looking for a present!

UK Saddleries

RideAway - very good catalogue type site - could spend plenty of money here! They currently have an 'end of season' sale going on.

Stable Express - a new site which will include an on-line store, dates of equine events and news, chatrooms etc. This site is beginning to develop and the forums certainly seem quite busy.

USA Resources:

The Farrier and Hoofcare Resource Center: Problems with hooves after all the wet weather? a search for "mud fever" brought up more than 300 links on this extensive site.

The American Mule and Donkey Association - including information about the Brayer Magazine and sample articles

TURRO Institute for Animal Health Studies - founded on longears research. Several pages for owners/breeders to access and read and will be posting many more in the near future. A consulting veterinarian, Dr Purdy, makes himself available for consultation to anyone about donkeys.

Donkey Page - loads of excellent donkey information

Jacks R Better - well I'm not sure my girls would agree! - a personal web site devoted to two miniature donkeys

Miniature donkeys including the magazine Miniature Donkey Talk

Quartermoon Ranch - miniature donkeys and some nice information/entertainment articles to look through here.

The Mule Barn

Donkey Sanctuary of Canada - a smaller web site than the UK sanctuary but doing very similar work - some heart-breaking stories but with happy endings here.

The English and Irish Donkey Society of Australia Inc. - donkeys down under!

International Museum of the Horse, Kentucky

Equine Catalogue Sites - lots of equine links to web sites for all breeds, stable management, buildings, field management etc.

The HayNet - The HayNet is basically a big list of web sites related to equines. It is well catalogued and easy to search. A search on donkeys brought up 19 links.

The Horse Interactive - not really a catalogue site, although it does contain lots of links to other good information sites, it is based around The Horse magazine. Nice thing about this site is that lots of the articles from the magazine are available on-line, along with 'timely tips' etc.

Virtual Communities - pull up your chair and settle down for a chat about all things related to donkeys, mules and hinnies.
